The 2009 Evening of Excellence proved a resounding success. A record crowd were in attendance at our reception and dinner celebrating the I-Fund's 10 independent colleges and universities. The Evening, a celebration of Leadership, began with the new Network 10 Scholars Reception. Students and business recruiters mingled in a robust networking session at the Belvedere Hotel in Baltimore.

The Leadership Award recognizes an organization's commitment to higher education in Maryland, as demonstrated by establishing a $5,000 scholarship—one on each of our member campuses—benefiting students who exhibit leadership qualities, academic strength and financial need.

The scholarships are raised through a funding partnership between the UPS Foundation and the I-Fund Board of Directors, as well as proceeds from the Evening of Excellence

The Evening continued with a presentation during dinner to our Leadership Award recipient, the National Security Agency, along with the I-Fund's Rob Spar Impact Award recipient, Lockheed Martin. The high point of the evening came with a powerful video and presentation from our friend and keynote speaker Matt Eversmann, the hero immortalized in the epic film Black Hawk Down.
